◊ Sapphire is a gemstone variety of the mineral corundum, an aluminum oxide. Trace elements are what give sapphires their color.

◊ Padparascha sapphires are mainly found in Sri Lanka. The stones unique peach color inspired the term “padparadscha”, which is derived from the Sinhalese word for aquatic lotus blossom, which has an unusual salmon color.

◊ Imperial topaz is also known as "precious topaz". Considered to be the color of the setting sun, imperial topaz gets its name from the Russian tsars of the 17th century. This is because the tsars claimed exclusive rights to the pink topaz gemstones that were mined in Russia. The natural pink variety is very rare.

◊ The word diamond comes from the ancient Greek adéamas, meaning unbreakable. Most natural diamonds are formed at high temperatures and pressure in the Earth's mantle. Carbon-containing minerals provide the carbon source, and the growth occurs over periods from 1 billion to over 3 billion years. Diamonds are brought close to the Earth's surface through deep volcanic eruptions by magma, which cools into igneous rocks.
