We are incredibly fortunate to live in a place where we have a roof over our heads, food on the table, heat, and clean water whenever we please. We are also able to live and work in freedom, which is not the case for many people. As a part of our business model, we pledge to give a portion of our proceeds back to those who have less. Our clients are a great part of making that happen and we are ever grateful. We need to lift up the vulnerable among us because our gifts do not mean much if we cannot help others. With this belief in mind, we have chosen to use a portion of our profit every month to give back. We personally sponsor a family with children in a third world country which helps them keep food on the table, send their children to school, and have access to healthcare. We also donate through Mayan Families in conjunction with Living on One Dollar Organization. We donate to The Toolbox Initiative which is a program that provides tools and material to jewelers in Africa that allows them to self–sustain through their trade of metalsmithing. All financial donations are used to buy tools from Rio Grande, who has partnered with them to provide tools at a discounted price.
In addition to humanitarian donations, we have chosen to select a horse rescue farm to support. Theresa grew up in Wisconsin, riding horses and had a rescue beautiful Saddlebred named Crystal who loved going on long trail rides. She had one eye and her owners didn't want her after she couldn't ride in shows anymore. That didn't stop her from being a lovable horse. Theresa volunteered in her youth at Free S.P.I.R.I.T Riders in her hometown, which uses riding therapy to serve people with disabilities. Because of that life–long love for horses, we have chosen to support Illinois Horse Rescue, which not only supports the rescue of unwanted, abused horses, but also serves veterans, troubled youth, and individuals with disabilities in the community. We feel that they wonderfully represent both horse and human interests, where they can work towards healing each other.
PAST JEWELRY & Financial Contributions
We source recycled precious metals to handcraft our jewelry that have been refined and milled into sheet and wire. On occasion, we use our own scrap materials to create more organic pieces. The design is what determines how we may or may not reuse our gold directly. In addition, we do custom work on family heirloom pieces to breathe new life into a design. Please take a look at our Instagram page to view our most current work and heirloom re-designs. To inquire about our services, please email us at email@example.com to discuss in detail. We apologize, but we are not buying gold at this time.
In our studio/shop, we strive to be as eco-friendly as possible! We light our studio with eco-smart LED lightbulbs which use less energy and generate less heat than incandescent bulbs and last much longer. Our packing materials are 100% recycled and we do paperless invoicing and receipts for our customers to generate as little waste as possible. Our packing materials are reusable and recyclable. many of the products we carry in our shop by other makers are reusable in one way or another. All the goods that we carry in our Chicago storefront are made by independent artists here in the United States. The candles and skincare we carry are natural and preservative free because we believe what you put on your skin is as important as what you put in your body. The majority of our furniture and displays are either vintage or locally made in an effort to extend our support of handmade. We feel fortunate to be shop neighbors with Earth's Healing Café where they make wonderful smoothies with the best organic fruits and vegetables. You can usually find us sipping on our favorite smoothie flavor—River Nile!
